Labor Daze Meltdown

Jesus H. Christ has it been hot lately.....

.....so Friday nite we sought solace under the cool neon lights of Hip-Hop Cafe.

Shout outs to Guru (check for tPC at HHC on 9/21!!!) and the ladies of The System.

Saturday was all about the AC and college footballl....

...Mounties are number 3, and killin the competition. USC, LSU -- watch your backs.

Sunday, the Beta Omega Kappas (USC, LMU, Pepperdine) invited us out to perform at their campus BBQ....

...which was fun, but again, I repeat, H_O_T....

....so me sought some shade under the greenery at 'Dul's house.....

....and finished the day by bowling with my churren.

By the time Labor Day rolled around, I was just ready to blast some fools...

....so me and the Unit 8 Squad headed out to Hollywood Sports in Bellflower, for some good ol' fashioned paintball action....

....whoever thinks we just some peaceful, jazzy hip-hop dudes....COME GET SOME

Skipped-Over Flicks

View from my window...note: this ain't Hollywood

I spent more-than-a-little time this weekend cleaning the Spacestation, lounging with the nuggets, and watching the boob tube.

Doing so, I stumbled across two flicks in the loveable jungle that is Time Warner Cable On Demand. Sometimes good films don't get the publicity they deserve, but they always end up somewhere in the viewing landscape.

So, thanks to Hollywood's inability to properly market these easily enjoyed gems, here are my Skipped-Over recommendations, thanks to a lazy weekend:

Duma
Having travelled to Africa, I was intrigued by the byline of this movie, which follows a young boy as he takes his adopted cheetah back to its wild home, and along the way, gets lost in the desert. The cinematography is beautiful; the shots wide, empty, and colorful.

The story is mostly about the boy's journey, and his coming to terms with the death of his father, and the loss of his one true friend, his cheetah. This is a great film, for film-lovers, not popcorn-poppers.

Lord of War
This plays more like a "Blow" for the arms race. Cage coolly delivers a voice-over narrative about his rise as a gun-runner in post-Cold War Ukraine and Africa.

The film shows how guns, especially AK-47s, are able to make it into the hands of children, yet the characters never struggle with this issue. Cage himself is more physical comedy han earnest serious. I enjoyed the movie, but found it lacked in substance. Better to watch and just chuckle at some of the dry jokes. No heavy lifting.

After that, this weekend's dose of popcorn butter was provided by Bourne Ultimatum....and it was action-movie-fast, roof-jumpin', window-smashin' good fun, I must say.

Everybodys Livin' for the Weekend

It was just one of those weekends....things fell into place effortlessly, friends were easy to track down, none of the parties were disappointing, and I ate barbecue.Twice.

Friday, chopped it up with the homie Substantial, backstage before QN5 Megashow. Met Deacon from Cunninglynguists, as well. If you didn't go to QN5, you missed out....check out more here

Saturday was all about the FAMU alumni picnic. Our illustrious school on the highest of seven hills, was hanging in Baldwin Hills, off in a cozy corner of Hahn park, grillin' and chillin'. Saw many old friends, some business connects, and just felt that old school Rattler love.

Saturday night was the ?uestlove jump-off at Royale....he kept it real upbeat, old-school, grown & sexy. I had a great time. Saw so many heads in the spot.....Pic, Tendai, Jackson Perry, Carey Williams, my boy Moon Man John....we had a blast. Mama rocked the ill heels too! Complained about her feet hurting, but I had the baddest chick in the game wearin my chain....see exhibit A above. Haha.

Plus, the Weapons of Mass Construction tee was hurting em......

Sunday, went to the dealership to change this...

...for this

But they were officially player-hating! Another $5000 down, plus the trade-in! You can't be serious. I will just cop it. Fuck it. Three whips, its nuthin! Let me stop playin'. But really, the gas guzzler gots to go....but for now, the xD must wait for another weekend. Damn finance managers, fuck 'em!

After that, had to make sure I kept my gym focus on...can't let The Urban Princess have all the fun.

Always keep my digital handy, so I got some exclusive i-Report footage of a car on fire...

A good lesson on keeping your engine clean and getting your oil checked, huh buddy!

24Hr Fitness and I then met in brutal fury of physical will and determination...otherwise known as my quest to NOT BE FAT.

ARM WORKOUT+AB SOLO+ELLIPTICAL+SAUNA+STEAM>J. Space

Finally, capped the weekend with some quality time at Elevation....as Jackson says, "Sunday is the new Saturday". I agree.
